NPS tax benefits
- • Sec 80C: ₹1.5L deduction (shared with PPF, ELSS etc.)
- • Sec 80CCD(1B): Extra ₹50K — exclusive to NPS, on top of 80C
- • Sec 80CCD(2): Up to 14% of basic (govt) / 10% (private) — employer's NPS contribution, fully deductible
- • At 60: 60% lump sum is tax-free; remaining 40% mandatorily buys annuity (taxable as income later)
Equity-debt mix
Active choice lets you set up to 75% equity (capped). Auto choice tapers equity as you age. Equity-heavy NPS portfolios have averaged 9–11% historical, government bond portfolios 7–8%.
