PFRDA launches PRIDE-DISHA — a free tool to compare NPS returns across fund managers

A new PFRDA circular (14 July 2026) rolls out an online calculator that shows real, XIRR-based returns for every NPS pension fund manager and scheme, using NAV history back to 2008.

The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) issued a circular on 14 July 2026 (circular no. PFRDA/2026/40/REG-PF/07) introducing NPS PRIDE-DISHA — short for “Pension Fund Returns for Informed Decision & Empowerment” — a free online tool that lets National Pension System (NPS) subscribers compare actual historical returns across every registered pension fund manager (PFM) and investment option.

What the tool does

PRIDE-DISHA is now live at pfrda.org.in/pride-calculator. It uses NAV (Net Asset Value) data going back to 2008 — roughly 5,000 trading days — across around 4,800 fund manager and scheme combinations, and computes XIRR (extended internal rate of return) for each. This lets a subscriber see, for example, how the Active Choice equity option of one PFM has actually performed over 5 or 10 years versus a rival PFM’s Auto Choice option, rather than relying on marketing claims or a single point-in-time NAV comparison.

Why this matters for NPS subscribers

Until now, comparing pension fund managers meant manually pulling NAV histories from each PFM’s website and doing the XIRR math yourself — most subscribers simply never did it, and stuck with whichever PFM was pre-selected by their employer or PoP (Point of Presence). PRIDE-DISHA standardises this into a single comparison view, which is useful if you are:

  • Deciding which PFM to pick when opening a new NPS account
  • Considering an inter-PFM switch (NPS allows a limited number of fund manager changes per year)
  • Choosing between Active Choice (you pick the equity/debt/G-sec/alternative asset mix yourself) and Auto Choice (age-based auto-allocation, via Aggressive, Moderate or Conservative lifecycle funds)

What it is not

This is a disclosure and decision-support tool — it does not change any contribution rule, withdrawal rule, or tax treatment of NPS. It simply makes historical return data easier to compare before you make a PFM or scheme choice.

What to do

  • Log in to your NPS account (via the CRA portal or NPS mobile app) to check your current PFM and scheme allocation.
  • Use the PRIDE-DISHA calculator to see how your existing PFM’s returns stack up against alternatives over your relevant time horizon.
  • Remember past returns are not a guarantee of future performance — use this as one input alongside expense ratio, AUM size, and your own risk appetite, not the sole basis for a switch.
